Pretty much recognizable by anyone, the Wes Anderson aesthetic is characterized by vividly-colored, perfectly symmetrical postcard-like frames he has been perfecting over the last 20 years of his career, from The Royal Tenenbaums to Grand Budapest Hotel and The Isle of Dogs.
It was more than enough to create a massive following, specifically an Instagram account going by the handle of @accidentallywesanderson, channeling Anderson’s films with awe-inspiring IRL architecture and landscapes that are as fictional as they are real, that amassed over 1 million followers. The collection of followers’ images curated by the IG account’s founder, Wally Koval, are to be published as an expansive photobook. The fully authorized book is transforming the visual adventure by detailing human stories behind each of the shots, and most importantly, including a foreword by the legendary filmmaker himself, of which a snippet you can read below:
“The photographs in this book were taken by people I have never met, of places and things I have, almost without exception, never seen – but I must say: I intend to. Wally Koval and his collaborators have put together both a very entertaining collection of images and also an especially alluring travel guide (at least in the opinion of this actual Wes Anderson).”
The photobook will comprise of predominately new and never-before-seen images carefully handpicked to celebrate the aesthetic artistic endeavors of the beloved filmmaker, in all its vibrant patterns and atypical settings, but will of course include some of the fan-favorites from the IG account.
Accidentally Wes Anderson, Wally Koval, will be published October 25 via Trapeze.
