Jil Sander might fall into the hands of a new company. Italian fashion group OTB — which owns labels such as Maison Margiela, Diesel and Marni — reportedly has plans to acquire Jil Sander, which has been acquired by a handful of fashion groups since its founding in 1976, sold to Prada Group in 1999; then London-based Change Capital Partners, 2006; and finally Tokyo’s Onward Holdings Co. Ltd., 2008.
The German designer’s luxury fashion label’s acquisition will serve to widen OTB’s scope in the current fashion market as it aims to scale up its business. According to sources, OTB has been working to find new ways to make its products and operations more sustainable, so diversifying its portfolio with the acquisition may complement that strategy.
