In a new cover interview with Vanity Fair, Billie Eilish has opened up further about her “horrible body relationship” that caused her to self-harm. Eilish has tried to highlight the issues she has faced growing up in the spotlight, from body dysmorphia and shaming to being sexualised online over the past few years.
“The reason I used to cut myself was because of my body,” she says in the interview shot by Quil Lemons. “To be quite honest with you, I only started wearing baggy clothes because of my body.”
She also mentioned the misuse of diet pills when her relationship with her body was at its worst. “I wasn’t really eating. I was, like, starving myself,” she explains. “I remember taking a pill that told me that it would make me lose weight and it only made me pee the bed – when I was 12.”
“I thought that I would be the only one dealing with my hatred for my body, but I guess the internet also hates my body. So that’s great.” She revealed that fame only exacerbated the situation, leading trolls on the internet to comment on her body and her choice of baggy fit clothing.
