Fans of the clown prince of crime should celebrate today, as it appears that the original director, Todd Phillips is set to return for the Joker sequel.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros. has officially signed Joker‘s co-writer and director for the next installment. The prospect of Phillips’ return to the franchise has always been floating around, however, it was never confirmed until now.
Most of the surprise comes due to Phillip’s previous statements that he would not return for a Joker sequel unless he was able to find “some thematic resonance in a similar way that [the first movie] does.” Though Phillips is coming back to the film, the question of whether or not Joaquin Phoenix will return still remains.
