Eight years after resurrecting Polaroid’s abandoned type 600 instant film back in 2008, The impossible project presented the new I-1 instant camera at Bloomberg Businessweek’s annual design conference yesterday. The I-1 will be the only new camera for the original Polaroid format, and will be the first camera combining analogue and digital technology.
The I-1 instant camera will be available in May and shoots on 600 film that the company has reversed engineered from Polaroid’s original technology. The functions on the camera, which has a consciously retro styling despite an LED ring flash, are linked via Bluetooth to an app that allows the photographer to adjust flash, aperture and shutter settings, remotely trigger the camera and offers a range of filters and effects.
For those interested, you can get more info ahead of the I-1′s launch by subscribing to the Impossible newsletter over at impossible-project.com. The I-1 is due May 10 for $300 USD.
