Khalil Joseph, the director behind Beyonce’s “Lemonade,” has been directing a short film for Kenzo that features actors Jesse Williams (“Grey’s Anatomy”), Tracie Ellis Ross, cellist Kelsey Lu and musician Ishmael Butler, better known as Ish.
“Music Is My Mistress” is the fourth in a serie of films commissioned by Kenzo Creative Directors Carol Lim and Humberto Leon (previous films have included “The Realest Real,” directed by Carrie Brownstein and the Spike Jonze-helmed music video starring actress Margaret Qualley.)
The film is an amalgamation of rhythms, visions and moods that eschews narrative continuity in favor of divergent glimpses into a bigger story. The storyline is involving Williams’ character searching for a mysterious musician and finding a runaway African princess.
“With every campaign film we always try to take Kenzo to a new place. This is the second time we’ve worked with Kahlil on a short film and with “Music is My Mistress” he evoked another viewpoint on our collections that felt right to us. Visually the movie is incredible and leads us to confirm we were right in trusting our instincts when we asked him to work with us on the project.” did they say Lim and Leon said in a statement.
