Billie Eilish is getting all the media outlet attention as her recently announced sophomore album Happier Than Ever is nearing its release date. The songstress has coincidentally shared the first single off the impending record entitled “Your Power” along with its moody music video.
Produced entirely by her brother FINNEAS, the track features a stripped-back instrumental of raw acoustic guitar and is paired with faint synth towards the latter half. It is colored with shades of vulnerability, gloominess, and melancholic feeling. It talks about all the men who abuse their power across the music industry, especially towards younger women.
Regarding the music video, it features an aerial view of a mountain rage in Simi Valley, CA, and gradually zooms in on Eilish and her freshly blonde hair where she is spotted dressed in earthy tones and boots with overlapping laces. Around the 1:24 mark, an 80 pound anaconda starts to slither onto her lap. As the song progresses, the gargantuan creature starts to wrap itself around her body until it eventually “silences” her voice — a cinematic visual that perfectly encapsulates the theme of the song.
“This is one of my favorite songs i’ve ever written. I feel very vulnerable putting this one out because i hold it so close to my heart. This is about many different situations that we’ve all either witnessed or experienced. I hope this can inspire change. Try not to abuse your power.”
