Ωοτοκία, a new photobook for the Italian luxury fashion house, is a collaboration between acclaimed Greek director Yorgos Lanthimos, famed for his bizarre and perplexing films such as the likes of The Lobster and The Killing of a Sacred Deer, and fashion designer/creative director of Gucci Alessandro Michele, that blends the surrealistic and unique looks on the world of both.

Shot at the Leda Gallery of Villa Albani Torlonia in Rome, models — younger wearing Gucci’s eclectic outfits, and the elderly mimicking the ancient Roman and Greek statues — are captured posing among the statues and next to centuries-old walls. Inspired by the marble statue of Leda and the Swan, a first-century Roman representation of an earlier Greek statue, Alessandro created a shoot with an attempt to explore the importance and value of the copy. Lanthimos’ style is well suited to the otherworldly dreamscape that Michele has created around Gucci, saying it was a “joy to be given the opportunity to create these images inspired by the work of Alessandro Michele”.
