A donation of $2 million from Kanye West has been donated to the families of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, and Breonna Taylor, as well as to a Black-owned business in his native Chicago to support it to survive the economic downturn during the coronavirus pandemic. The donation also includes legal fees the Arbery and Taylor families who are currently seeking justice for the loss of their loved ones.
George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, and Breonna Taylor were killed in recent months by police officers and their deaths sparked protests across all 50 states and in other parts of the world.
Another kind-hearted deed by Kanye is Gianna Floyd’s college tuition (daughter of George Floyd) he paid for. He established a 529 education plan, according to CNN.
Although he hasn’t yet made a statement regarding the current nationwide protests demanding changes to policing and mobilizing against America’s systemic racism, in a recent interview with GQ, West, who has come under both pressure and scrutiny for his vocal support of Donald Trump, explained his viewpoint behind his political beliefs while grappling with his faith and the current administration: “We know who I’m voting on. And I’m not going to be told by the people around me and the people that have their agenda that my career is going to be over… That’s like if Obama’s campaign was ‘I’m with black.’ What’s the point of being a celebrity if you can’t have an opinion? Everybody make their own opinion! You know?”
