A crystal clear Netflix upgrade for Apple users is on its way as part of Apple’s latest operating system macOS Big Sur, allowing viewers to stream titles in 4K HDR.
The 4K HDR update, according to reports, arrives with the new HEVC support in Apple’s Safari browser and will work with both Dolby Vision and HDR10, the two HDR streaming formats Netflix uses. It will, however, be limited to Apple products that actually support HDR, such as MacBook Pro 2018 models and above, Mac mini 2018 models and above, the iMac Pro and the Mac Pro. Additionally, the upgrade broadens Apple’s use of 4K outside of its own services, such as Apple TV’s 4K support of YouTube and AirPlay 2’s 4K stream from iOS devices to Big Sur.
