As part of an outdoor exhibition called “RESTORATION: NOW or NEVER,” launched and curated by non-profit organization SaveArtSpace, more specifically independent curators Anne Verhallen and Daria Borisova, participating artists such as Stefan Bruggemann, Zhang Huan, Tabita Rezaire, Coco Capitán, Wang Yuyang, Fred Tomaselli, Formafantasma, Olive Allen and Khari Turner, aim to bring attention to the world’s climate crisis by taking art outdoors, given the restricted access to arts spaces and cultural institutions.
The artworks, which will vary in composition, will be presented across prominent London advertisement spaces, like billboards, kiosks and bus shelters, for one month.
“The mission of this independent project is to raise awareness of climate crisis issues like global warming, to give artists in all stages of their career a platform to to express concern and leadership, and to bring art to the public after a year of closed gallery and museum spaces,” as per a press statement.
The exhibition will launch in conjunction with World Environment Day on June 5 in the UK. The choice of artists reflects their engagement in response to climate change, calls for restorative action or suggests a path forward. The open call for artists to apply to showcase their work for this outdoor exhibition is currently open through April 19. Visit SaveArtSpace’s website for more information.
