Popular shoe manufacturing company, Vans, has officially launched Channel 66 (commemorating 1966 the year Vans was born), which is a digital programming broadcast that will feature the freshest voices and sounds in music right now, reimagining event experiences and grassroots programs in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Vans is seeking to spotlight each city’s unique heritage and subcultures through the lens of the people who really live it, broadcasting live audio and video from New York City, Chicago, Mexico City, and Los Angeles. Audiences from around the globe will have a chance to listen to various DJ sets, curated radio shows, talks, workshops and musical performances across music, art, action sports and community.
Programming highlights include curated shows like Chessboxing with GZA, Max Fish Chronicles telling bar stories from one of NYC’s most infamous Lower East Side haunts, Afropunk’s Channel Interference, Poetry and lyricism by Young Chicago Authors, Chance the Rapper’s Social Works, The Girl Ultra Show connecting music and fashion, and All Ages Show spotlighting Los Angeles’s rich heritage in DIY and Punk.
“It’s an honor to collaborate with a cool hip brand like Vans and engage with others in such a setting that I am familiar and comfortable with, which is playing chess. Many life lessons can be learned from the game itself,” says GZA. Additionally, there will be special DJ sets from Action Bronson, Denzel Curry, Nick Zinner, Vic Mensa, Laura Jane Grace, Duckwrth, Rosa Pistola, Serena Isioma, Vans Pro skater Daniel Lutheran and many more.
