Virgil Abloh once again tests and proves his remixing skills this time by doing a Michael Kiwanuka song. Previously played as the introduction to the label’s Fall/Winter 2020 Paris Fashion Week show, the designer took the same Kiwanuka song titled “Solid Ground” and gave it a harmonious, post-2 a.m. vibe.
Abloh’s previous remixing efforts include ones with Boys Noize, Tiga, and The Martinez Brothers, but the Mercury Prize-winning “Solid Ground” really outdoes the rest. The designer allows just enough of Kiwanuka’s vocals to remain untouched but overlays this with sounds that are to be expected from the original artist himself, resulting in a fusion-like combination of soul, jazz, and blues with a top-riding house beat.
